The paper presents a series of data on the biology, ecology and ethology of the European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) on hemp, in comparison with the evolution of this pest on maize. It was found that the insect population in maize had a delayed development, as compared to that in hemp, and overwintering larvae from hemp had body weight and lenght smaller than those from maize. It is considered that these bio-morphological peculiarities somewhat different within the hemp population could be explained by differences between nutritive elements in these two plant species.
