Water erosion of potato land in Western Australia, 2. Methods of reducing soil loss.
1991
McFarlane D. | Delroy N. | McKissock I.
Practices for reducing erosion were assessed by field observation of growers' plots and by experiments. To prevent the most severe erosion, diversion banks and grade furrows are required. There is scope for reducing the number of hilling and inter-row cultivations after sowing. Contour working is possible on slopes of up to 10 percent. Basin tillage has the potential to decrease water and soil loss for summer crops on moderate slopes. Cover crops grown after harvest were very effective in reducing soil loss.
