The demo-verification study was conducted to determine the effect of basal fertilizer placement on the mortality of germinating cotton seedlings. It also aimed to determine the efficiency of different methods of sidedressing nitrogen placements on cotton. The percentage emergence of cotton seedlings was lowest when the basal fertilizer was placed directly below the seed indicating detrimental fertilizer salt effects on the germinating seed. The highest seedling emergence percentage were observed from the control (no fertilizer) and from the treatments where the basal fertilizer was placed between hills or placed at the side of the hill in the same level with the seed. High efficiency of nitrogen sidedress application in terms of yield, plant height and number and weight of bolls were obtained from the plots where the nitrogen fertilizer was immediately covered with soil through hilling-up after it is banded along the rows and from the plots that were immediately irrigated after applying the nitrogen fertilizer and without any soil cover. Lower yields were obtained from the plots where the sidedress nitrogen fertilizer was left uncovered and not irrigated.
