This experiment was undertaken at Kasetsart University Farm, Kamphaeng Saen campus, Nakorn Pathom. The objective of this experiment was to find out the effect of ureatreated rice straw on the estrous parameter and growth rate of crossbred heifer dairy cows. Fifteen crossbred heifer dairy cows were allotted randomly into 3 treatments i.e; Tr.1. Seven Kilogram of urea treated rice straw and 2 Kilogram of 18 % protein concentrates were given per head per day Tr.2 Seven kgs of untreated rice straw, 2 kgs. of 18 % protein concentrates and 0.5 kg. of green leucaena leaves were given per head per day and Tr.3 Forty kgs. of green grasses supplemented with 2 kgs. of concentrates were given per head per day. All these experimental animals were kept in loosing house system, but during feeding time each animal will be fed in individual feeding stall. Drinking water is available all time. This experiment was started on the 1st December 1983 and lasted till the 31st December 1984. Weighing of these animals was monthly recorded and heat detection was observed every day during morning and evening. It was observed that the growth rate of Tr1, Tr2 and Tr3 was 319.31, 339.39 and 399.63 grams/day respectively. For the comparison of Tr.1 and Tr.2 on growth rate parameter there is no difference in statistics, more research should be done on Tr.2 to be sure that it is feasible to feed animals with untreated rice straw by supplementing with concentrate and green leucaena leaves which may be economical than treated rice straw with urea. On the heat observation, the incidence of estrous eycle of Tr.1, Tr.2 and Tr.3 was 0 %, 66.67 % and 60 % respectively. From these observations, more number of crossbred heifer dairy cows is needed to be included in experimental units.
