Transformation of inorganic nitrogen in soil as influenced by oil cakes and moisture regimes. Note.

Saha D.
Oil cakes are the residues left after extraction of oil from oil seeds, which occupy an important position in agricultural economy of India. Oil cakes obtained as by-product of oil mills are mostly used as cattle feed and manure. The manurial value of cakes lies mainly in their N-content although, they contain small quantity of P2O5 and K2O. Knowledge of N-mineralization from organic matter was obtained from studies that measured only the net change in the amount of exchangeable NH4+ and soluble NO3- in the soil.
