Plant propagation, callus regeneration and subsequent organogenesis were studied in vitro on two types of explants of sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas) from two provenances. Scanning electron microscope was used for morphological characterization of both sources. The effect of different concentrations of indole acetic acid either alone or mixed 6-amino purine or kinetin was studied on the propagation of nodal segments by measuring stem elongation leaves number, and roots number elongation. Provenances showed different responses to added bioregulators but for sources, greatest stem elongation was reached when media contained 1 mg/l of I.A.A. Two types of calluses were obtained from petiole sections: one friable and the other turgent; only in the last type, root regeneration was induced in media containing a mixture of I.A.A., kinetin and adenine sulphate. By using scanning electron microscope initial points of organogenesis were observed and information on leaves surface morphology was obtained for both provenances.
