Two fertilization trials with NPK in plantations of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. ssp. globulus were performed, using a random block design. The trials were established in the province of Valdivia, Chile. The first one on ground with former natural prairie; the second one on ground with former native vegetation. Five NPK doses were tested with equal proportion of elements in doses of 11.25, 22.50, 45.0, 75.0 and 125.0 g per seedling. N and K were broadcast on a surface of 1 m2 around the seedling, P was applied in holes of 10 cm depth at a distance of 15 cm from the seedlings in 3 equal subdoses. The results show, at the end of the first vegetative period, that 11.25 g of NPK per seedling obtained a significative difference in height and diameter, in relation to control, unfertilized treatment. These doses gave an average foliar concentrations of 1.28%, 0.05% and 0.88% for N, P and K in the prairie trial and 1.65%, 0.07% and 1.04% for N, P and K, respectively, in the former native vegetation, trial. Doses higher than 11.25 g of NPK produced anomalies that affected the development and growth of the seedlings. All the fertilized treatments grew significantly more in height and diameter than the control.
