The aim of the present work was to study the localization and distribution of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides or its immunoreactive components in lung lesions of animals with acute contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP). In immunohistochemical experiments, the peroxidase anti-peroxidase complex was used for antigen (Ag. myc.) visualization on sections of paraffin embedded lung. The Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides, isolated from lung tissue with pleuropneumonia lesions, which were also object of the present study, was used as antigen for the immunoserum preparation. The results showed the Ag. myc. in the deepest respiratory tract and inside interlobular septa of the lung. Immunoreactive sites were also identified in lymphatic vessels, including the thrombi observed within these vessels. In the "organization centers" the Ag. myc. was detected in the intermediate zone of centers, classified by us as Type I and within blood vessels of Type II centers. Antigen accumulations were also visualized in the lobular periphery. These results permitted to consider the immunohistochemistry as an important methodology for the study of CBPP etiopathogenesis (author).
