Efficacy of bio-insecticides as compared to conventional insecticides against white fly (Bimisia tabaci Genn.) on okra crop

Plant based neem insecticides have an appreciable pest controlling ability, moreover, they are considered as environment friendly as well as they are highly degradable, thus, having low persistent and residual effects. But their use becomes limited due to the instability of azadirachtin which necessitates its application at short time interval. On the other hand the bacterial based spinosad is also being used as an environmentally safe product. Present study was carried to evaluate the effectiveness of two bioinsecticides the Biosal and Spinosad. In comparison with three conventional insecticides the imidacloprid, endosulfan and profenofos) for white fly management on okra crop, in the field. The order of effectiveness in decreasing sequence was found to be imidacloprid greater than profenofos greater than endosulfan against white fly. It was 81, 73, and 67% respectively. Biosal showed moderate effectiveness with 56% and 55% reduction in white fly population, whereas spinosad gave appreciating results against white fly with 36% reduction. Higher yield of okra fruit indicates the higher controlling effects of insecticides and vice versa.
