Population fluctuation of sugarcane stem borer Chilo infuscatellus Snellen on different varieties of sugarcane in Sindh

Chilo infuscatellus Snellen cause a regular colossal damage to sugarcane in Pakistan it causes significant damage during early stage of the crop when it is young. But it's exact economic significant had not been studied yet. Present study has been carried out during the year 2009-2010 from March to November. Observation has been collected from the three selected varieties i.e. SPF-234, CPF-237 and Thatta-10. Infestation of C. infuscatellus during 2009 was reported significantly highest 1.28 plus minus 0.63 and 1.24 plus minus 0.86 on SPF-234 followed by 1.27 plus minus 0.91 on Thatta-10 while infestation on CPF-237 was recorded insignificant. However, this infestation ratio was reported significantly highest on SPF-234 (1.55 plus minus 1.62) followed by CPF-237 (1.33 plus minus 2.54) while it was significantly lowest on Thatta-10 in 2010. In addition to this, Infestation of C. infuscatellus was reported significantly highest during the hottest months of year. To check the growth and population of this pest present study is being reported for the first time from this region.
