Beech forest resources on limestones in Pešter Plateau [Serbia]

Beech forest on calcocambisol and calcomelanosol type of soil are present from the total of 136 plants, 12 tree species, 18 bushy specie, and 116 species occupying in the ground flora layer. The Mid-European floral elements are most dominant in the spectrum of floral elements, accounting 32.35%. In beech forest 55 are medical plants (40.4%). Within the first healing class 7 species, in second class 4 species, in third 17, in fourth 11, and in fifth 16. The following species in fruit trees were reported: Crataegus monogyna, Juniperus communis, Sorbus domestica, Fragaria vesca, Sorbus aucuparia, Ribes grossularia, Cotoneaster tomentosa, Lonicera xylosteum, Rhamnus falax, Ribes alpinum, Rosa arvensis, Rubus hirtus i Sorbus austriacus. In beech forest 54 species are honey plants: 9 trees, 17 bushy and 28 herbaceous. The mean honey yield of the association is 3.00. The number of honey plants in blossom is the highest in May, Jun and July. Beech forests occupy 2027.03 hectares. High even-aged beech forests is recorded on 17.4%, high all-ages on 7.7%, coppice stands account for 49.6%, coppice divested stands 5.5%, underbrush 6.4, high beech and sessile oak forest 4.0%, high (even-age) beech and hornbeam forests 3.6%, coppice beech and hornbeam forest 5.8%. The trees thinner than 30 cm are present with 61.3%.The selection of tree species for the regeneration of the ecosystem will enable its faster revitalization. The collected data enable the multi-layer comparative analysis of the area by using GIS technology, as well as the determination of the level of the threats posed to the natural ecosystems and sustainability of the area for the certain activities. The anticipation of the direct and indirect results of the unintended use of area is enabled, which means that before the final decision is made the great faults can be prevented. The series of subprogram activities which are in the interactive relations can be formulated in several general program aims: environmental protection, optimal use of the natural resources, improvement of the secondary activities, advertising analyses and analyses of the commercialization of the offer of this area, strictly in the aim of preservation of the natural resources and environmental protection (by using the principles of the sustainable development of the renewable plant resources).
