The article present the theoretical framework based on the theory of policy integration and coordination as a suitable frame for analyzing the degree of cross sectoral and cross sectional policies integration and coordination. The situation in the Slovak republic indicates that there is an insufficient degree of policy integration and coordination in the forest policy field and other policy fields closely linked to forestry. Forestry is a typical sector with significant inter or cross sectoral linkages. Even though that there is a common understanding that the degree of policy integration and coordination is low, no research was undertaken in this area. Therefore the aim of this article was to present the state of art in the foreign and domestic literature and research and to outline the theoretical and methodological approach which is to be used in the following research. The methodological framework based on quantitative and qualitative text analysis will enable to identify which procedures and mechanisms are applied for ensuring policy integration and coordination. The comparative analysis will enable compare the national programs with the foreign ones, aiming to identify limitations or they can serve as best practices for the future.
