Obtaining further scientific knowledge on use, management and protection of forest natural resources on sustainable basis will result from research solution of the activity 4.2 "Assessment of public beneficial functions of forest ecosystems and project of centre of excellence: Adaptive forest ecosystems". A core of socio-economic and ecological methodical procedures for the assessment of ecosystems functions are efforts to evaluate realistically benefits of nature and human activity and their impacts on human population and the nature as well from the viewpoint of its survival prospect. It follows from the analysis and assessment of factual information and methodical procedures for the assessment and valuation of the benefits of ecosystems functions and services as well as production activities that assessment and valuation of benefits, which have not been and will not be even in close future realised at the market, is problematic and least exact. Usefulness of the first group of functions is linked to accepted by man and sed core of multifunctionality of ecosystems while the usefulness of the second group of functions follows from organized production processes in form of extemalities. Solving these issues has been and still is a priority of basic world conceptual materials and it leads to radical improvement of the process of natural resources use and stabilization of the environment. Results of the solution should contribute to the improvement of the methods of identification, quantification and financial valuation of the benefits of functions and services of ecosystems and forest sector. In applied research the results should be implemented through the tools of state forestry policy and environmental policy as well as efficient performance of state administration and civil associations of the owners and users of forest and agricultural property. The obtained knowledge should serve also for objectifying the process of decision-making on the use of natural resources and improvement of the care about the environment components.
