Adjustment lending : how it has worked, how it can be improved
Thomas, Vinod | Chhibber, Ajay
A recent World Bank study examined the performance of adjustment programs, evaluation policy reforms, and assessed the design and implementation of adjustment operations. The results reaffirm the rationale for adjustment lending and its benefits. At the same time, they also suggest some alternatives to ensure that future programs will be more effective. This report, based on a conference held at the World Bank on September 19, 1988, serves as a companion volume to that evaluation. It points to some unresolved issues, outlines some of the practical implications of the evaluation's findings, and briefly recapitulates the evaluation.
