显示更多 [+] 显示较少 [-]Earth resources consist of natural phenomena of the air, land, and water and include such critical resources as wetlands, soils, groundwater, strategic minerals, oil and gas, stream flow, solar radiation, precipitation, and construction materials. These and other earth resources are not only individually irreplacable, they also play a key role in the distribution and character of biological and cultural resources. Stewardship of earth resources requires the use of state-of-the-art methods and concepts for inventory, evaluation, and management. This document serves as a guide and source book for resource managers at DoD installations to understand the scope of earth resources stewardship at-their installation. Initially, the document provides an overview of the nature, occurrence, and significance of earth resources. Methods of acquiring earth resources data and inventorying and stewardship of lithospheric, hydrospheric, and atmospheric resources are then presented. The value and use of earth resources information in the management of cultural and biological resources are discussed in terms of earth resources information required for various management issues. One of the major themes of the report is the role of earth resources information in developing and executing integrated natural and cultural resources stewardship programs.
