The hillforts of the Villaviciosa estuary: a contribution to the interpretation of the Iron Age in Asturias.

Archaeological research in the last decade has contributed to coincidental information that begins to reveal the richness and ups and downs of the Castro culture in Asturias during much of the first millennium b.c. However some opinions that turn to matters of meaning and an alteration <i>sui generis</i> of archaeological documentation attempt to discredit not only a good part of the archaeological record and interpretative inferences but also firmly established historical knowledge and models.<br><br>In these pages a discourse is planned based on the data obtained during the excavations of the hillforts within the boundaries of the Villaviciosa estuary. This contributes to knowledge of the current state of research, the underpinning of the archaeological sequences and the preparation of interpretative models of this chronological period.<br><br>Las investigaciones arqueológicas de la última década han aportado una coincidente información que empieza a desvelar la riqueza y avatares de la cultura castreña en Asturias durante buena parte del primer milenio a.C. Sin embargo, algunas opiniones, que recurren a cuestiones de matiz y a una alteración <i>sui generis</i> de la documentación arqueológica, pretenden desacreditar no sólo buena parte del registro arqueológico y de las inferencias interpretativas, sino también de conocimientos y modelos históricos sólidamente establecidos. <br><br>En estas páginas se traza un discurso, fundado en los datos obtenidos en las excavaciones en los castros del ámbito de la ría de Villaviciosa, que ha de contribuir al conocimiento del estado de la investigación, al apuntalamiento de las secuencias arqueológicas construidas y a la gestación de modelos interpretativos de esa etapa cronológica.
