During the period 21 June - 15 July 1978 investigations were carriedout on the Barents Sea capelin stock. Capelin larvae were caughtwith a Gulf III plankton sampler, and an acoustic survey was madeof 1 year and older capelin. The capelin stock was smaller thanit had been the preceeding summers. The 2 years old capelin werevery numerous, but very small quantities of 1 year old capelin wererecorded. Geographical distribution and length frequency is shownfor each yearclass. Hydrographical conditions are briefly discussed.
