Increased production of plant and animal produce requires improvement of farming systems, new ways of reducing energy consumption, application of efficient and resource-saving technologies of crop cultivation. The realized in the conditions of the Republic of Belarus research was aimed at the determination of dynamics of productivity of maize (Zea mays), cultivated for silage, at the determination and estimation of the quality of fodder made from corn, depending on the terms of harvesting in different phases of grain ripeness and on the degree of the harm from light frosts. The article shows the importance of the terms of harvesting corn, cultivated for silage in the conditions of the north-eastern part of the Republic of Belarus. We have presented results of laboratory analyses of the chemical composition of silage, and estimated the green mass of corn and the silage fodder made from it according to the phases of development. We have also determined the degree of the influence of the terms of sowing on the formation of qualitative indicators of silage mass.
