The aim of our study was to test the efficiency of four different herbicides against Cirsium arvense in a field with winter wheat (cv. Akteur) and the impact of these herbicides on creeping thistle root system. The herbicides Mustang Forte (2,4-D, aminopyralid, florasulam), Huricane (aminopyralid, florasulam, pyroxsulam), clopyralid and MCPA were applied in three application terms, depending on growth stage of thistle (T1: BBCH 17, T2: BBCH 35, T3: BBCH 65). Five thistle plants from each plot were marked with wooden pegs at different stages of the application. Marked thistle plants were evaluated for herbicide efficacy. The efficacy was evaluated on 14, 28 and 56 days after application. Thistle regeneration was also evaluated. The strongest effect on thistle was found in the application term T1. The beginning of a reliable effect on the weed plant suppression was delayed with increasing thistle growth stage at the time of application. Nevertheless, a reliable effect of herbicide application was observed in all terms of treatment. The regeneration occurred in a shorter period after the treatment made in higher growth stages of the thistle. The roots of all treated variants compared to untreated control showed damages, discolouration, reduction of root hair and reduced diameter of the main root.
