A wide range of approaches to animal health interventions goes under the label of ‘community participation’ but little is known about how successful these are. A new study shows how different approaches to community participation in Africa impact on the success of animal health interventions. Encouraging active and self-mobilising involvement tends to produce the most sustained benefits for communities.
