The effects of starter fertilizer and foliar application of Urea on yied and Quality of Winter wheat

In order to increase the efficiency of chemical fertilizers by using appropriate method of application and depth of placement, six different methods of application were compared. Broadcast application with and without starter fertilizer, band application with and without foliar application of urea, Broadcast application with starter fertilizer and foliar application of urea, and Local method of fertilizer application were compared in a two year field experiment in Zanjan province. The results obtained showed that band application was superior to other methods. Fertizer placement 5 cm adjacent to seed and 10 cm below it increased grain and straw yields. Foliar application of urea increased N contents of leaf and grain but not the yield. Placement of a small quantity of fertilizer directly in the row with the seed as starter fertilizer decreased the grain and straw yields.
