Effect of different forms and levels of nitrogen on quality and quantity of nursery seedling rootstocks of peach

A field experiment was carried out in nursery of Seed and Plant Institute of Karaj (Iran) to determine the effect of various forms and levels of nitrogen application on vegetative growth and leaf nutrient status of two peach seedling rootstocks (Missouri and Yazdi) during 2009 and 2010. The experiment was laid out in a RCBD with split split plot arrangement. The main plot treatments included two forms of nitrogen fertilization: sulfate and urea while the sub plot treatments were; four different levels of nitrogen: (control), 200, 400 and 600 kg ha-l. Sub sub plot were two studied peach seedling rootstocks. Seeds were planted per plot at the end of January 2009. In addition, Dixie Red cultivar as scion was grafted on studied eedlings rootstocks at the end of August 2009, respectively. For each experimental year, soil application of nitrogen fertilizers were added once at the beginning of April and repeated every 14 days. Each treatment was replied 7 times. The results of first experiment year (2009) showed that the application of 600 Kg sulfate ammonium/ha had highest dry weight of shoot and root production and leaf N concentration of Missouri and Yazdi seedling rootstocks. However, the result of second experiment year (2010) showed that the application of 200 kg sulfate ammonium/ha for Missouri and Yazdi rootstocks with Dixie Red as peach scion cultivar showed highest shoot length, shoot diameter and leaf surface.
