Quality Characteristics of Colored Rice Variety, "Keunnunjamibyeo"

Keunnunjami, a new blackish purple pigmented rice cultivar with giant embryo, is a mid-maturing ecotype developed by a rice breeding team at Korea National Open University. The embryo weight of Keunnunjamibyeo is 2.82 times heavier than that of Heugjinjubyeo on a single grain base. Also, the C3G content of anthocyanin in Keunnunjamibyeo was 2.2 times higher compared with that of Heugjinjubyeo, a Keunnunjami variety. Keunnunjamibyeo showed higher protein as well (8.3%) than Heugjinjubyeo (8.0%), In amino acid composition, lysine greatly increased in Keunnunjamibyeo, while in methionine, cystein slightly decreased compared with Heugjinjubyeo, The lipid content of Keunnunjamibyeo was 1.5 times higher compared with that of Heugjinjubyeo.
