Fruit growing is one of the most profitable branches of agriculture. In Serbia, fruit growing has characterized by old cultivars, semi-intensive and extensive orchards established on inadequate planting material, poor agrotechnical and pomotechnical measures, fruit of low and unequal quality and limited storage capacities. Over the last few years intensive orchards with new cultivars have been established and high level of production technology has been applied. Also, high quality planting material is produced in domestic nurseries and the number of modern cold storages for fruit and new processing facilities is increasing. This paper presents an analysis of conditions in the production of continental fruits and measures for its further improvement.
