Lack of data in the field of agriculture is a substantial problem in the Sudan. Reliable and systematic records and information by sector or by commodity/variety are not adequately available. Official records are only estimations and forecasts are based on outdated and mostly non-reliable records. These poor market information systems have contributed negatively to information on prices, marketing transactions and marketing functions. The problem of reliable prices has not been given any considerable importance in policy formulation and specific crop strategies. There is a need to adopt an appropriate system of measurement as a price reporting system with appropriate coding including all food and other cash crops, considering both quantitative and qualitative aspects, to surpass the demerits of the currently used measurement approaches. The importance of prices as a tool that gives price signals to farmers, such as what to produce in the next season, as well as helping decision makers to make appropriate interventions towards both the consumers and producers is recognized. This paper helps policy designers and decision makers to deal with this partial price issue in an integrated manner that tackles the marketing information problem as a whole in a more holistic approach than the approaches that are currently used
