The article aims at analyzing and comparing the values of some of the main economic indicators of the development of agriculture in four countries in the EU. The choice of Bulgaria, Hungary and Greece is based on the similar size of their territory and population, the utilized agricultural area and production structure. France, on the other hand, is one of the largest and most developed agricultural countries in the Union with similar natural conditions for plant-growing and animalbreeding. The research shows that Bulgaria is still well behind of the other three countries from the point of view of productivity, animal performance and crop yields in spite of the comparatively high growth rate of agricultural production and farm restructuring.
