Increase of salinity of arable lands, leading to severe decline of crop productivity and plant death, appears a great problem of modern agriculture. Global clime change and warming, land desertification promote enlargement of salinity level of agricultural areas. NaCl appears the main substance, negatively influencing on physiological processes of plant cells. Genetic researches and creation of sustainable plant varieties represent the most perspective directions of the development of stable agriculture. Investigation of metabolic processes, sensitive to salinization, evaluation of biochemical and biophysical mechanisms, determining salinization sustainability of plants may be used as a base for molecular and genetic researches and creation of new sorts of plants, stable to salinization. The research of the influence of NaCl on early stages of development of cucumber (Cucumis sativus) and barley (Hordeum vulgare)seedlings is presented in the article. In barley seedlings and cotyledons of cucumber plants grown in full darkness on NaCl solutions (50-125 mM) as the primary response on salinity are accumulation of proline, growth of ALA biosynthesis rate, increasing heme amount, preserving rate of respiration and content of ATP on a level of the control plants and insignificant (20%) decreasing activity of cytochrome c-oxidase. Activation of ALA and heme biosynthesis is proposed to be a plant response to protect respiration as energetic source in absence of photosynthesis to promote plant salt tolerance.
