The aim of this article was assessment of voluntary dry matter intake (VDMI) of silages made from the grasslands under intensive utilisation. During 2008-2011 two types of heifers housing systems were compared. Grasslands were managed in this way: IN [Intensive Utilisation] - four cuts per year, fertilization N90P30K60 and MI [Medium Intensive Utilisation] - three cuts per year, fertilization N90P30K60). The experiment was conducted on 2x6 heifers (from the sucker cows rearing system) using two types of housing: loose box housing and tie-stall housing. VDMI was influenced by intensity of utilisation and housing system, as well. Value of VDMI (P less than 0.05) was higher in IN (21.29 g/kg BW, SE = 0.144) than in MI (19.79 g/kg BW, SE = 0.114). Value of VDMI (P less than 0.05) was higher for loose-box housing system (20.06 g/kg BW, SE = 0.129) than tie-stall housing system (19.38 g/kg BW, SE = 0.118). By decreasing intensity of grassland management (from IN to MI) it was observed the decrease of NEL concentration 5.4 MJ/kg DM), crude protein concentration (from 145.5 to 123.0 g/kg organic matter digestibility (from 71.0 to 68.3 %). On the other hand (from IN to MI) the value of NDF content rose from 435.4 to 486.8 g/kg DM, the CF content rose from 245.0 to 270.5 g/kg DM and dry matter yield content rose from 5.86 to 6.23 t/ha. There was a negative correlation between VDMI and the NDF (P less than 0.05), as well as the positive correlation between VDMI and NEL (P less than 0.05).
