Impact of the crop rotation on weed infestation of spring barley grown in conjunction with sugar beet

Spring barley is usually grown in conjunction with sugar beet which affects its weed infestation. The field trial was founded in 1989 by Crop research institute Prague at the Ivanovice na Hane experimental station site. The crops are grown in three cropping systems with various cereals shares (33.3 %, 50.0 % and 66.6 %), spring barley was always grown after sugar beet. Spring barley weed infestation was evaluated by numeric method, number of individual plants per square meter. Within 4 monitored years, 36 weed varieties were detected. Most of the weeds were detected at the cropping system with lower cereals share. (Echinochloa crus-galli, Fumaria officinalis, Lamium amplexicaule, Lamium purpureum, Persicaria lapathifolia, Thlaspi arvense, Cirsium arvense, Chenopodium album, Malva neglecta, Stellaria media, Veronica persica, Veronica polita). Higher share of cereals suits the following weed varietes: Avena fatua, Fallopia convolvulus, Viola arvensis, Galium aparine and Silene noctiflora. Crop rotation significantly influences the presence of the particular weed varietes.
