Study of effects of planting dates on grain yield, oil and fatty acids content of two spring safflowers.

The effect of planting dates on grain yield, oil and faty acids content of two spring safflowers was studied in agricultural research station, Isfahan Agricultural Research Center during 2004-2005. Two spring safflower lines namely Isfahan -14 and LL III were compared at 6 planting dates (May 5th and 21 th, June 5th and 21th, and July 6th and 22th July) in first year of experiment and also were compared at 8 planting date (March 6th and 21th, April 4th, and 19th May 5th 20th and May 26th and 20th June) in second year of experiment in a split plot design with three replications per main plot. The highest grain yield in first and second year of experiments were obtained from may 5th and March 2Ith respectively. Delay in planting caused concurrence of vegetative growth with high temperatures of July and August, lower photosynthetic area, early flowering and coincidence of reproductive growth stages with high temperatures and these consequentlylowerd yield and yield components. Delay in planting date until mid and end of July caused reduction of substance transfer in grains that caused grain yield reduction. Isfhan -14 was late mature than l.L. Ill. During the experiment Isfahan -14 based on all measured traits was higher than I.L III except 1000 kernel weight. In two years of experiment interaction of planting date and genotype for number of days to physological ripening and grain yield was significant.
