Punica is the only genus belonging to punicaceae. The genus has two species in the world. This study was accomplished to identify: taxonomic characters, genus and species description, number of species and cultivars and their distribution in Iran. First, references were reviewed. In order to obtaining species limits, Field studies and taxonomic investigations, character measuring and range deviations were done. Results showed that punicaceae has one genus ( Punica) and one species (P. granatum) in Iran. The species, mostly, is cultivated around the country, although it found as wild. Ahmar, Aswad, Halwa are the most important cultivars in Iraq. Mangulati is the most important in Saudia Arabia. Wonderful and Red Loufani are important in North Jordan. Bedana and Kandhari are two important cultivars in India. In our country, various cultivars were reported, but the cultivars: Shirin, Malas, Torsh, Black and Bedana are important.
