The Effects of Nitrogen Sourceson the Yeild and Quality of Wheat

Nitrogen is the most important nutrient for wheat production. optimum nitrogen fertilization is essential in improving the wheat grain yield and its protein content. The Efficiency of nitrogen fertilizer to a great extend depends on the amount of N , the number of N application , sources of N and the method of application. A Randomized Complete Block Design was conducted to study the effects of four sources of N (Sulfur Coated Urea , Urea , Ammonium Sulphate and Ammonium Nitrate ) on the yield and quality of irrigated wheat at the Shahrood(Semnan) Agricultural Research Center from 1996 to 1997. N _ Rate was 135 Kg / ha , SCU applied as preplant and the other nitrogen fertilizers were used three times in split application. The results indicated that effect of nitrogen fertilizer sources on the yield of grains was not Significant. The highest yield of grains was related to the application of Ammonium Nitrate and urea ( 3367 and 3267 Kg / ha respectively ). Effect of SCU on quality of grains such as Protein (%11.7), Sedimentation Test ( 36 ) , Water Absorption (% 65) , and Bakeing Characteristic (455.7 ml) was superior to the nitrogen fertilizers.
