The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of intramammary injection of dibenzo(a,l) pyrene (DBP) in female Sprague Dawley rats. The rats were injected intramammillary (i.m) once with DBP (SIGMA-ALDRICH) dissolved in corn oil (SIGMA-ALDRICH) at 15 mg/kg of body weight. Control rats were injected i.m with corn oil only. The rats were kept for 12 weeks and sacrificed for further examination of the mammary glands and other organs. The mammary glands were enlarged. Microscopic examination of the enlarged mammary glands was consistent with invasive lobular carcinoma (lLC).
