Study on topophysis and adaptability of 15 month old bud-grafted teak (Tectona grandis L.f.) at Wanagama I

Series of experiments were conducted on the adaptability of teak bud-grafting plantation. Factors causing plagiothropic growth and treatments for best growth of bud-grafted teak taken from various branch and bud positions were also studied. The present research was carried out with 9 months old bud-grafted teak located in Wanagama I research Forest of Gajah Mada University, Jogjakarta-Indonesia. All field work was completed within the period of 6 months starting from November 2002 to April 2003. A high adaptability with survival rate of 94% was found in the present experiments. grafting techniques did not significantly influence height and diameter growth. However, it significantly influenced growth characteristics as indicated by topophysis symptoms. It was found, as well that twig location was the limiting factor causing topophysis symptoms. Considering most investigated parameters, the best treatment was C2MT. C3MP treatment was the best treatment based on stem resemblance factor.
