2004
Julaihi Abdullah
Sarawak is one of the hotspots of the biodiversity in the world, with Orchidaceae as the largest plant family. 1072 taxa of orchids have been identified in Sarawak. Of these, 875 taxa have been identified to species level. However, as a resultof habitat disturbance due to conversion of forests to other land uses and uncontrolled collection in the past, many species have become valnerable, threatened or endangered. The diversity and distribution of wild orchids of Sarawak is described, and efforts to conserve this diversity highlighted.
