This study was conducted at the Research Experimental Area of the Abra State Institute of Sciences and Technology, Lagangilang, Abra [Philippines] from June 13, 2009 to December 30, 2010. This is to characterize, evaluate and determine the acceptability of selected traditional rice varieties in Abra. Results show that there were significant differences on the number of days from transplanting to booting, and heading, number of productive tillers, length of panicle, number of grains (Filled and Unfilled) and harvest index of the different traditional varieties tested. No significant differences on the number of days from transplanting to maturity, height of plants at maturity, and yield. Bantolo and Oliog had produced the highest number of productive tillers. Ngarabngab had the highest number of filled grains and harvest index produced. Intan possessed the longest panicle. Bantolo produced the heaviest weight of seeds. Ngarabngab was the highest yielder among the traditional varieties tested. The yields of the five varieties were not significantly different from each other.
