未知. Nowadays more and more people question our individualized consumer society's promise of happiness which is based on a high level of material wealth. The spectrum ranges from evidence from the area of happiness research to the discussions of post-growth economics. At the same time we are observing alternative forms of possession and consumption in many areas of the economy and society, which are often supported by social media. This present study discusses conceptual perspectives concerning the so-called "sharing economy" and "collaborative consumption," and at the same time presents empirical evidence of a representative poll of citizens in Germany. The convergence of social networks, a renewed belief in the importance of community, pressing environmental concerns and cost consciousness are moving German people to shy away from top-heavy, centralized and controlled forms of consumerism towards forms of sharing, aggregation, openness and cooperation.
