Effects of 2,4-D and GR 24 on seeds germination of witchweed (Striga hermonthica (Del.) Benth.)

Five laboratory experiments were conducted during April 2006 in Wad Medani, Sudan to study the effects of 2,4-D at 2.5-10011M during pre-conditioning and10n pre-conditioned witchweed seeds, simultan¬eously with, prior to, or after GR 24 at 0.001, 0.01 or 0.1 ppm on germination of witchweed seeds. The results revealed that application of 2, 4-D at the concentrations tested at conditioning or simultaneously with GR 24 on pre-conditioned witchweed seeds significantly suppressed ' germination. However, it stimulated the germination of pre-conditioned seeds. When 2,4-D or GR 24 were applied 3-24 h prior to the application of the other, germination and abnormal germination of witchweed seeds progressively increased with increased period prior to their application
