At present, the protection of agricultural soils against soil sealing is mainly concentrated into the south-western Slovakia, where in terms of quality are our highest quality soils. At the same time we have a large amount of regions with little or no protection of agricultural land against soil sealing. The aim of our study was to develop alternative solutions, that would protect the soil against soil sealing in terms of regional quality, and therefore did not reflect the production parameter only, but also all other significant non-productive functions of soil from a local perspective. Proposed solutions are based on an existing system of BPEJ (land evaluation units). The first alternative creates new groups of soil quality on the principle of soil characteristics and soil quality is perceived only indirectly. The second alternative is based on the existing groups of quality, but tries to allocate easily the highest quality soils in cadastre. Terms of uniformity of distribution of protected land and cover of the maximum count of cadastres, satisfies the second alternative. This alternative increases the total area of protected land, while it allocates the highest quality soils to each individual cadastral area, which highlights the local dimension of the protection of agricultural land.
