Evaluation of differences of fodder quality in chosen sown grass and clover species

In the paper there were assessed differences in fodder quality of sown grass and clover species based on the study of small-plot trial established in the locality of Rapotin in 2010. There were found significant differences between species concerning the fodder quality and also the rate of weeds. Significantly higher concentrartion of Ca (12.5-15.2 g/kg DM) nad K (30.4-35.6 g/kg DM) were found in clover species. Nevertheles, legumes were characterised by significantly lower concentration of P (2.82-2.95 g/kg DM) comparing e.g. Festuca arundinacea (4.07 g/kg DM) or Lolium perenne (4.03 g/kg DM) at the same time. Legume monocultures also showed the higher rate of weeds (up to 85 %). Beside other, differences are closely related to the earliness of species and to their ability to compete with the weeds for light and nutrients. From the fodder production´s point of view Festuca arundinacea, Lolium perenne and Festulolium var. Hykor were found as the most perspective grass species in the site conditions. Hykor showed the highest mean height (50 cm), the lowest rate of weeds (5 %) and the favourable fodder quality (103.1 g/kg DM of CP; 1.91 g/kg DM of Mg; 5.09 g/kg DM of Ca; 3.92 g/kg DM of P).
