Study on taxonomy, distribution and host range of mycorrhizal fungi belonging to boletes in Iran

Ectomycorrizal fungi are group of fungi that have a symbiotic relationship with root of trees and shrubs. Bolete fungi are among the most important group of ectomycorrizal fungi. In this research taxonomy and distribution of bolet fungi in Iran were investigated. Mushroom samples were collected from different sites throughout the country and were transferred to laboratory for preservation and identification. Results showed that, there are 28 species of bolete fungi belong to nine genera, Aureoboletus, Boletus, Chalciporus, Gyrodon, Leccinum, Strobilomyces, Suillus, Tylopilus and Xerocomus. Five species viz, Boletus badius, Leccinum corsicum, L. quercinum, Strobilomyces strobilaceus and Xerocomus rubellus are reported here for the first time from Iran as new records. Based on collected and studied materials, Geographical distribution of boletes in Iran was found to be restricted to forested area of Northern Iran which includes forested area in Golestan, Mazandaran, Gilan and East Azarbaijan provinces (Arasbaran forests). Most of the samples were collected in relationship with broadleaf trees especially oak species (Quercus spp.).
