In order to study of difTerent planting dates and ptqr\\t densities effects on yield and yield components of autUmn safflower (Carthamus tinc/orius L.) cultivar LRV5 1-51', the "experinient was condl1ctedduring 1.998-2000'growing season at Darab Agricultural Resarch Station. The experiment was carried out randomized complete block in split plot design with fOllr replications. Main plots included 'thr(?,e planting date (6 Nov., 22 Nov. and 6 Dec.). Subplots induded three plant densities 33.3, 16.6 and 1 J. J plants/m2 (60x5, 60xJ 0 and 60xlS centimetres). The. results of the first year showed that sowing d;1te had not significant effect on seed yield. Plant density had significanr effed un seed yield and its components. Interaetion of sowing date and pl.ant del1Stty was not significant effect on yield and its components. In the first year second plaming clate (22 Nov.) and I'll ant -density (! 6.6 plants/1112) had 4187 kg ha"' seed yield. Analysis variance of data for the second year sho\\Ncd that plming date had not significant eHeet on seed yield, but plant density had significant effect on seed yield (P=) % ). Combined analysis showe.d that sowing date was not significant effect on seed yield. Seed yield of second planting date (22Nov.) was 3424 Kg ha-I. Plant density had significallt effecl on planr height, number of branches, , number of pods per plant, ] 000 seeds weight, oil percentage and seed yield. Interaction of sowing date and plant density had. not significant effect on seed - yield. The highest seed yield with 3589 kg ha-I was obtained at 22NOV. and plant density ] 6.6 plants/m2. The lowest seed yield with J 110 kg ha-I' was obtained at 6 Dec. and plant density 11.1 plants/m2.
