In order to study the biology of the lady beetle Hippodamia variegata Goese in laboratory condition, egg of this insect were collected from Hibiscus rosa chinensis infested with aphids (Myzus persicae) in Lahijan city. With the use eggs collected from field, a laboratory coloni were estabilished for later studies. Different stages of growth and development, life span, different developmental temperature threshold, fertility, feeding, food preference were studied under laboratory condition by feeding on aphids Myzus persicae and Macrosiphum rosae. The results of different experiments indicated that 1- the mean development period of this lady beetle from egg to adult under costant temperature of 25, 30, 35 and 40 Cı by feeding on M. persicae took 18 ± 0.04, 13.1 ± 0.05, 10.15 ± 0.04, 7.7 ± 0.04 and by feeding on M. rosae 19.2 ± 0.05, 13.95 ±0 .04, 10.87 ± 0.05, 8.15 ±0.04 days. The maximum percent life span of different developmental stages was at 30 Cı. 2- The thermal constant from egg to adult with feeding on M. persicae and M. rosae was 203.522± 1.87 Cı and 222.1.94± 1.87 Cı. 3- Average daily feeding was indicated by larval instars (1-4) and female adult.with feeding M. persicae 29.95 ± 0.13, 61.57 ± 0.2, 95.2 ± 0.25, 128.62 ± 0.24, 94.81 ± and M. rosae 20.27 ± 0.16, 50.27 ± 0.26, 82.5 ± 0.34,100.375 ± 0.33, 87.29 ± number. 4- The average daily egg laying egg-laying period feeding upon M. persicae and M. rosaeat 35 Cı were higher to 25, 30 and 40 Cı. 5- The food preference experiments indicated that the lady beetle prefers M. persicae to M. rosae.
