Sugar-beet cyst nematode (SBCN) (Heterodera schachtii) is a major limiting factor in production of sugar beets in Iran and other countries of the world. In order to evaluate resistance of commercial sugar beet varietiesto this nematode in 2012,two experiments (Each of them,25 genotypes) in Khorasan Razavi province (Chenaran) and one experiment (25 genotypes) in West Azarbaijan (Khoy) in randomized complete block design with four replications was conductedin nematode-infested field conditions. In addition, these cultivars were evaluated for resistance to beet cyst nematode in greenhouse conditions. The qualitative and quantitative characteristics of sugar beet such as root yield, sugar content, sugar yields etc.were measured under infested condition and data werestatistically analyzed using SAS 9.1.3 software. TheChenaranresultsshowed thatthere is a significant difference (P0.01)intreatments in root yield (RY)and sugar yield(SY), white sugar yield(WSY), sugar content (SC) and white sugar content (WSC), purity(PUR) and molasses(MS).Commercial cultivars HI1192 had the highest root yield (RY), whilecultivars Sanetta and Kuhn29 had the lowest RYper hectare.Cultivars HI1192 had the highest SY and WSY, and susceptible cultivar SBSI-5 produced the lowest SYand WSY. In this experiment, cultivarBERING had the highest PURand the lowest MS, unlike the cultivarHI1173 had the lowest PUR and the highest MS. Experimental results of Khoy showed that thereis no significant difference (P0.05)in cultivars for traits such as RY, SY,WSY,PUR and MS,except for SC and WSC. Kunhn30 and SBSI-5cultivars had the highest and lowest SC and WSC,respectively. Resistance test results grouped cultivars in greenhouse conditions and showed that, cultivars BT213S, FD0901IR, Sanetta, SN620, Charly and MA4001 were more resistant than Pauletta cultivar. The overall result isthat,FD0901IR cultivarhadroot yield andSBCNresistance more than the other cultivars studied.
