Control of field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis) with postherbicides in flowering stage in orchards.

Field bindweed is a major weed problem in fields and orchards in Iran. Herbicides have demonstrated limited efficacy, with retreatment often suggested on labels. However, little data are available to verify efficacy with repeated treatments in flowering stage in orchards in Iran. These experiments conducted in Tehran and Isfahan during 2008 to 2010. The experiment design was a Completely Randomized with four replications and 13 treatments. Treatments were post emergence applications of Glyfosate (SL 41%) at 2%, 3% and 4% plus Amonium Sulphate, Weedmaster (Glyfosate 360g/l, SC 35%) at 0.75% and 1%, Ilicho at 4%, 5% and 6%, Garlon at 1% and 1.5%, Starn at 0.5% and 0.75% and control. Treatments in Tehran reduced field bindweed growth 100%. However, by 3 to 4 months after the treatments, stem regrowth was 0%. In Isfahan, Starn and Garlon controlled field bindweed 94 -97% on visual injury estimation. Furthermore, herbicides reduced field bindweed stem biomass and densities until 93%.
