Water shortage and competition on it s consumption among different sectors including agriculture, specially in rice production is becoming a major challenge. Here development of a water saving technology will be a serious need. To this, an experiment with 10 diverse aerobic rice genotypes were evaluated for some important agronomic characters, grain cooking and milling quality, yield and its attributes in an aerobic experimental field condition in Dasht-e-Naaz, Sari, Mazandaran in 2012. Rice genotypes were tested in a randomized complete block (RCBD) experimental design with three replications. Statistical analysis on the mean of collected data for different traits showed a significant differences among test materials ( 0.05 and 0.01). Results also indicated that all genotypes have had a high milling quality (63~72%), elongation rate (1.7~1.9), amylose content (21~23%) and gelatinization temperature (3.7~5.3). Evaluation for number of nematodes in soil of roots area, roots surface and seeds showed no evidence of damage caused by nematodes. Comparisons for the mean of the traits among aerobic genotypes indicated five of them including IR78908-193-B-3-B, IR78875-176-B-1-B, IR79971-B-201-2-4, IR80508-B-194-4-B and IR80508-B-194-3-B showed a higher yield, good grain cooking and milling quality, suitable agronomic characters and were selected for stability test in different target areas with serious water shortage. Key words: Aerobic, cooking and milling quality, nematodes, water shortage, rice.
