Yield preliminary comparison of potato clones in spring cultivation areas

This study was performed in order to access to appropriate clones from the viewpoints of agronomic traits, marketability and compatibility with climatic conditions of potato production areas in country, at field of Agricultural and Natural Resources Research Station of Ardabil and Seed and Plant Institute Improvement during 2013. In this resaerch, numbers 33 selected potato clones were compared in preliminary experiment of without replication (Project No. 2-37-03-89115) with Agria commercial cultivar in a Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. During growth period and after harvest the following traits: days to tuberization, tuber uniformity, total and marketable tuber number and weight per plant, total and marketable tuber yield, plant height, main stem number per plant, main stem diameter, flower color, tuber shape, eye depth, skin and flesh color, tubers deformity, growth cracks, hollow heart, tuber internal rust and tuber flesh color change were measured. Combined analysis of variance trait of marketable tuber yield in Ardabil and Karaj regions showed that between location and studied clones there were significantly differences. The no significant differences between interaction clones and location observed. The clones No. 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15, 19, 20, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 30, 31, 32 and 33 had high marketable tuber yield, total and marketable tuber number and weight per plant. From the clones with high tuber yield, the clones No. 7, 9, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 23 had the heigh in terms of main stem number per plant and the clones No. 1, 2, 19, 27, 28, 30 and 33 in terms of plant height. Finally, were selected 18 clones with high yield. The selected clones had higher marketable tuber yield, tuber uniformity, shallow eye depth, short stolon length, yellow flesh and skin color, tuber non-deformity, non-hollow heart and non-growth cracks. Most of the high yielding clones were mid-late maturity.
