The studying on nutritive value of Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus) forage.

This research was assigned to study the top crop yield potential and nutritive value of Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), using a completely randomized designed with three treatments and four replications. The forage was cut at three growing stage where plant high, fresh and dry forage yield and leave/stem ratio were recorded then the chemical composition (AOAC, 2000) and in vitro digestibility (Tilley and Terry) was determined in the samples. The amount of fresh and dry forage yield were respectively 45.2 and 15.95 (t/h) in first cut; 64 and 29.85 (t/h) in the last cut (flowering stage) that were different (p0.05) between the cuts. The crude protein content was the highest (13.42) at first but the lowest (9.21) at the last cut (p0.05). The NDF, ADF and ADL did not affected by the harvesting stage but NFC was increased by enhancement of the growing stage (p0.05). The Ash content was higher in the first than that of the last cutting (p0.05). In vitro DMD and OMD did not affected by the growing stage. The results obtained from gas test showed that the cumulative gas yield was the highest at the third cut but the lowest at the first cut (p0.05). This is conclusion, that Jerusalem artichoke could be considered as a good potential forage source. Keywords: Helianthus tuberosus, forage source, yield, nutritive value.
