A mild hydrothermal treatment at 121°C and 15 psi for 10, 30 and 50 min respectively were performed on hemicelluloses A and B extracted from oil palm frond (OPF). Physico-chemical and functional characterization were ribitor perfonned in order to study the effect of autohydrolysis on OPF derived hemicelluloses. It was shown that after hydrothermal treatment, klason lignin content decreased. However, klason lignin content in hemicellulose A wasFoodhigher than hemicellulose B. Monosaccharides analysis using HPLC shows that xylose was the predominant monosaccharides in both fractions. Hemicellulose A was relatively less soluble in water than hemicellulose B but wash exhibited higher intrinsic viscosity than hemicellulose B.
