The article presents study of the dynamics of prices for forest products in Austria and Germany in the last 50 years and the main conclusions that can be drawn from their hesitation about the development of the forest sector. Prices are the main carrier of information in a market economy, so it is the dynamics is important indicator of the economy of the forest sector. Main trends in price changes will have a clear understanding of the level of development of the forest sector and to identify areas for further development.
